  There have been many talented African American classical musicians throughout history.  Here are just a few notable examples:   Marian Anderson: An acclaimed contralto, Anderson was the first African American to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.  William Grant Still: A composer and conductor, Still was the first African American to conduct a symphony orchestra in the United States.  Leontyne Price: A celebrated soprano, Price was one of the first African American opera singers to achieve international fame.   Scott Joplin: Known as the "King of Ragtime," Joplin was a composer and pianist whose music helped lay the foundation for jazz.  Florence Price: A composer and pianist, Price was the first African American woman to have a symphony performed by a major orchestra.  These are just a few examples of the many talented African American classical musicians who have made significant contributions to the world of classic...
